Literary Theory and Criticism I introduces learners to the fundamental concepts of European literary criticism and theory from Plato to T.S. Eliot. Additionally, it introduces learners to the essential framework of literary feminism. The course includes reading representative essays of literary criticism and excerpts from books on Literary Criticism by Plato, Aristotle, John Dryden, William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Matthew Arnold, I.A. Richards, T.S. Eliot, Wimsatt and Beardsley, Cleanth Brooks, and Elaine Showalter.
